"Caleb" |

|
|||
Adopt A Boxer Rescue (Rawlings, Maryland) - 01/28/2012 - We have noticed a huge difference in just three weeks and are amazed at Caleb's progress! He is steadily gaining weight and is now acting like your typical, energetic young boxer. Caleb's bloodwork came back normal and his pressure sores are healing well. His previous condition was solely from neglect and starvation. As you can see from the new pictures, he is filling out well. Caleb is getting along great with all his fur siblings. He is starting to learn how to box and play with the other dogs. Caleb is wonderful with the two cats, usually paying them no attention. He loves his fenced in backyard and would like to have a yard to run in at his new forever home. Caleb runs into his crate when told or at feeding time, and has no problems being crated when needed. He does need some work on his leash walking and basic commands, which we will be working with him on. We are really enjoying fostering Caleb and can't say enough good things about this wonderful boy!
01/07/2012 - Caleb was siezed from his owner by animal control for obvious neglect. He is emaciated and has sores on his legs. Poor Caleb should never have been allowed to get in this terrible condition. When his foster mom met him, he still wiggled and just soaked up any attention he was given. At the vet's office today, he was doing the best boxer lean and giving everyone kisses. He is now in foster with three other dogs and two cats. Caleb did great with the introductions and he traveled well in the car. This sweet boy is just under a year of age. We will update Caleb's page once we get to know him better. He will never know anything like the life he led before - Caleb will be a cherished family member from this point on. "Mandy" |

Adopt A Boxer Rescue (Hagerstown, Maryland) - 1/4/2012
Mandy has settled into our home quite well. This poor little girl does not know how to be a pet. We have started to slowly introduce her to life as a pampered boxer girl. She is starting with learning that potty habits are for outside and not in the house. She is catching onto this quickly. She has had only a few accidents so far. We bought her a nice comfy dog bed and she still is not quite sure about it and would prefer to sleep beside it on the floor. Mandy is getting curious about toys and playing. Watching Sandi play is so funny to her as she has a look of total wonderment on her sweet face. Mandy actually did a little bit of boxing tonight with Sandi and both were hopping around the living room. Mandy is slowly coming out of her shell. If you can provide a forever home to Mandy, apply today!
12/12/2011
Mandy was transported into rescue this weekend and she was so scared with all the new changes. She is experiencing many things for the first time, such as riding in a car, meeting many new people, and living life outside of a kennel run. Mandy is a beautiful young girl who just needs a patient home to help her come out of her shell. If you can provide a loving home environment for Mandy, please apply today and help get her out of our boarding kennel and into a foster or forever home.
12/7/2011
Mandy is the mother of some of the 10 six month old puppies that AABR recently took into rescue from a breeder. We are so happy to be getting her into rescue and out of a life of breeding. Mandy has lived her life in an outdoor kennel run and is very scared. She needs a patient family that can teach her the joys of living in a home and can help her come out of her shell. Mandy will be transported soon into rescue, where she will be spayed and brought up to date on all vet care. We will be updating her page with pictures this weekend. Please offer to help Mandy by fostering her!

"King" |

![]() |

Adopt A Boxer Rescue (Silver Spring, Maryland) - 1/4/2012
This little cutie is growing up and doing great! King is a shy guy that is learning about the big world. He recently went on a road trip to NY and did well in the car, sleeping the whole way there. He is quite the little snuggle bug and thinks that any human or dog he can find makes the best pillow. King needs a forever home to help him continue to gain confidence. He will do best in a home with another dog that is looking for a fun playmate and a fenced yard. King loves, loves, loves toys and playing with other dogs. Please consider giving this little guy a home of his own.
12/7/2011
Hi Folks! I'm King! In case you can't tell from the pictures, I am a 7 month old puppy. I'm told I am very cute, which I have to agree with. Before coming, I didn't have a lot of experience in a house - but I am learning pretty quickly. I know how to use the stairs, sit quietly in my crate, and eat all my food without help. I'm learning to use a leash and my foster mom says I'm almost completely housebroken. I LOVE toys! Really, I love them! They are the best invention ever! I like to chew on them, throw them up in the air, chase them, well, just about anything! I also love other doggies. I live with a bunch of foster brothers and sisters, large and small. I like to play with them a lot! I also really like to cuddle.
I'm still a bit shy of this big world, so I hope I can find a home that will help me come out of my shell. My foster mom keeps talking about finding my forever home. I don't know what that is, but I've been looking for it! Apparently when I find it, its gonna be pretty special. Do you know where I can find a forever home? I hope I find one soon.
11/23/2011
Included are some new pictures of King at his foster home. He is getting a little more comfortable with each day. King is a very timid boy and he loves to be snuggled up against you. He finds a lot of comfort in his crate. King is an adorable puppy waiting for his forever family. Apply today for King!
11/17/2011
King and several of his littermates are being transported into rescue within the next two weeks. These puppies developed the adenovirus at 6 weeks of age. Because they were sick when they were younger, the breeder was not able to sell them at that time. They have now fully recovered and are ready for forever homes! AABR has committed to helping these beautiful puppies find lifelong, wonderful homes.
Please keep in mind that puppies require a lot of work! If you are interested in a boxer this age, please make sure you are committed and ready before you apply! To be considered for a six month old boxer, you must have the time and energy to work on socialization and housebreaking. Somebody should be home enough to accommodate the needs of a boxer this age. If you do not have an appropriate home for a puppy or are not interested in a boxer this age, please consider adopting one of our many other available adults for adoption.

"Mattie" |

![]() |

Adopt A Boxer Rescue (Relay, Maryland) - 12/31/2011
Mattie is an adorable boxer puppy who is estimated to be around 10 weeks old. She was found abandoned in a neighborhood on Christmas morning. The young boy who found her went searching door to door for her owners, but nobody knew who this puppy belonged to. Mattie was eventually taken to the shelter. She was transported yesterday to her new foster home with AABR. Mattie is such a sweet puppy - she loves to snuggle in next to you and quickly falls asleep in your arms.
Our rescue vet examined Mattie and indicated that she has a congenital cataract in her left eye and her pupil does not dilate in her right eye. He feels Mattie is blind and has been this way since birth. She will be visiting our ophthalmologist soon to find out more information regarding her eyes.
Since Mattie is a young puppy, she is looking for a home where there is somebody home enough to work on her housebreaking and socialization. She would do best in a home with another dog and a fenced yard. Mattie's foster family will post an update as soon as they learn more about this sweet girl. Please consider contributing to Mattie's care!

Adopt A Boxer Rescue (Bowie, Maryland) - 12/27/2011
Noel has arrived at her new foster home and is doing great with her boxer brother. She is very thin, but is eager to eat - so should put on weight quickly. Noel is very affectionate with people and just loves attention. Her foster mom will be updating her page once she gets to know her better. Included are a few new pictures of sweet Noel!
12/21/2011
Poor Noel was found chained to a guard rail in a wide spot along the road just a week before Christmas. She was put in the drop off box at a shelter by the person who found her - he came to the shelter the following day and said he didn't know what to do with her. Noel is very thin and in need of TLC. Everybody who has met Noel has commented about what a sweet and gentle girl she is. The volunteers at the shelter indicate that Noel seems to do well with other dogs. She will be going into her foster home on Christmas Eve, so Noel will have a warm, loving home for the holidays. Noel will be in foster with a male boxer. We will update her page as soon as her foster mom gets to know her better.

Adopt A Boxer Rescue (Edgewood, Maryland) - 12/21/2011
Jewel was transported into rescue over the weekend and she is now in foster and settling in well. She loves her foster brother, a young male boxer, and she follows him everywhere. Jewel will need work with socialization and walking on leash, as this is something she has missed until this point in her life. Jewel is very shy and needs carried outside or up and down stairs. She is slowly coming out of her shell, but will need a quiet and patient home. Jewel would do best in a home with at least one other dog and with a fenced yard. "Duke" |

Adopt A Boxer Rescue (Silver Spring, Maryland) - 12/4/2011
Duke is quite the cutie! This little guy and his brother King have taken over their foster family's home. They just couldn't be cuter, sweeter little men. Duke is learning how to live in a house. He's about 90% housebroken, is learning to walk on leash, and does fine in a crate. He gets along with other dogs and really likes to eat! Like any puppy, he can get himself into mischief - so he's looking for someone that is going to work with him to train him the basics. Word of warning...one look in those sweet little eyes and you will find it very hard to say no to this little angel.
Duke came to AABR with an injury on his leg. The injury will not have long term impacts but it will take several months to heal. He can be adopted, but will need to visit the vet in January to have his wound looked at. Right now the leg just needs to be kept wrapped and a new bandage put on every other day. It is not difficult and he's very, very good about letting you do it. Because the wound is on his leg, not his foot, it doesn't affect his walking at all. Duke can still run and play (and loves to do both!). Please consider giving Duke a new home today!
11/25/2011
Duke is now in foster with his sibling, King, and several other dogs. He came into rescue with an injury to his back leg, which will need to heal before he can be neutered. Duke is a petite boy and his nub was going as fast as it could wag today during the transport. His foster mom will update his page once she gets to know him better. Get your application in today for this sweet puppy!

Adopt A Boxer Rescue (Maryland) - 10/23/2011
Mya is still waiting at the kennel for a foster or forever home. She needs a home without other dogs or with an easygoing male and somebody willing to do slow introductions. Mya just loves being around people and she is also great with children of all ages. If you can provide a home for Mya, please apply today so we can get this sweet girl out of the kennel!
10/2/2011
Mya was one of the sweetest girls I have transported. As soon as we put her in the car, she wanted only to place her head next to you. She rode the entire trip with her head next to our shoulders or hands, sleeping soundly. If she could have, she probably would have curled up in our lap. Mya is at our boarding kennel until a foster or forever home is found. Please offer to foster Mya so we can learn more about this loving girl!
9/27/2011
Mya and Chloe were signed over to the shelter by their owner due to citations for running loose. Mya is Chloe's mother. She just turned 3 years old in March. She can be very protective of Chloe with other dogs, so we are recommending a separate home for each of them.
Mya's previous owner reports that she is a very loving dog. Mya is housetrained and has spent time with young children (3 & 6 yrs old) and she did great with them. Mya is reported to be a little too fascinated with cats, so would do best in a home without them. We will update her page with new pictures once she is transported to rescue. Mya is in need of a foster or forever home.

With some patience and socialization, Prince will be a wonderful family member. He is starting a brand new chapter in his life!
10/23/2011
Prince is a handsome brindle boy who was surrendered from a puppy mill in West Virginia. His temporary foster home indicates that Prince has a loving personality. He has been around several different female dogs and has done great with all of them! Prince has also done well with the two children at his temporary home, ages 4 and 9. Prince will be transported into rescue soon, where he will be neutered and brought up to date on all vet care. He is in need of a foster home to go to following his surgery. Adopt A Boxer Rescue (Wrightsville, PA) - 10/31/2011
Neka is doing great at her foster home. She is very playful with her foster brother, a senior male boxer. Neka is eating well and is very curious about everything. She is very obedient and knows paw, sit, stay, lay down, and come. Neka really enjoyed playing in the snow over the weekend. She is going to be a great girl for a lucky family!
10/25/2011
Neka was transported to our vet yesterday and will be arriving at her foster home this evening. She will be in foster with a senior male boxer. Neka traveled well in the car on her transport and she just soaked up any love and affection shown to her. She is such a sweet and easygoing boxer girl!
10/23/2011
Neka is an adorable white female boxer who was surrendered to the shelter. Her owner had a stroke and is no longer able to care for her. The family members did not want Neka and were going to have her euthanized. Thankfully, the shelter stepped in and had her signed over to them.
Neka was being kept on the back porch and displayed obvious signs of neglect. Her nails were very overgrown and Neka needed to gain some weight. The volunteer that picked her up from her home couldn't get over how sweet and obedient Neka was. She loves people and other dogs. Neka will be going into foster soon and we will update her page once we know more about her. Thank you for your interest in Neka!

"Gavin" |

![]() |

09/13/2011 - Update
Gavin has seen the ophthalmologist. The good news is that Gavin is not completely blind. He does have some vision in his left eye. The inflammation and infection that most likely caused him to go blind was untreated years ago and is no longer causing problems. No medications are required and there is no surgery to correct his vision loss. Gavin does not consider this to be a disability at all - he is very well adjusted.
Gavin was a hit yesterday at the vet's office - everybody had lots of great things to say about him. He got many compliments on how handsome and well behaved he was. Gavin is going to be a wonderful boy for a lucky family. Apply today if you are interested in providing a forever home for Gavin!
08/27/2011 - Update
Gavin is settling in well at his foster home. He is getting along great with his foster sister, a female boxer. He is a huge lover and very affectionate. Gavin's appetite is as big as his heart. This sweet boy will sit for hours just to have your hand on him. He would do well in any type of household. We will be scheduling an appointment soon with an ophthalmologist to check his eyes, and will post an update after his visit.
08/21/2011 - Update
Gavin has been transported to our vet's office, where he will be neutered and brought up to date on all vet care. It appears as though he is losing his vision, so we will be having his eyes checked by an ophthalmologist once he settles into his foster home.
The temporary foster home that kept Gavin prior to his transport indicated that he is just the sweetest boy! Gavin did well with the cats and the other dogs in her home. He loves to give his paw when you ask him to sit. Gavin just soaks up any attention that he is given.
Gavin will be going to his new foster home soon and we will post an update and new pictures once we learn more about him!
08/12/2011
Gavin was found as a stray. The shelter indicated that he was picked up in the same area where Beryl and Carla were found a few weeks earlier. We suspect there may be a puppy mill or backyard breeder in this area. Gavin is estimated to be around 7 years old. He will be neutered soon and brought up to date on all vet care. Gavin is an adorable boy with a great boxer face! He has done really well with all the other dogs he has met at the shelter. Gavin is in need of a foster home. Apply today to foster or adopt this cute boy!

Adopt A Boxer Rescue (Pennsylvania) 12/27/11 Update
Bogart is doing great. He gets along well with all of the other dogs in his foster home, both male and female. Bogart is still fascinated by the cats, but not aggressive with them. He adores the teenager he lives with. Bogart likes to climb on you and give you kisses. Don't let his gray face fool you! He is playful and energetic - Bogart loves to play with the three year old boxer and keeps up well with her. He does fine with free run in the house when alone. Bogart is a great dog and he listens well to commands. A family will be very lucky to adopt this wonderful boy!
09/13/2011 - Update 09/3/2011
Bogart was found as a stray about a month ago. The family kept him and placed an ad, trying to locate his owner - but nobody came forward to claim this senior boy. Bogart was brought to the shelter today and they contacted our rescue to help. Bogart is already neutered and weighs around 75 lbs. The family that had him temporarily indicated that he got along great with their children and their blue heeler. New pictures will be posted soon. Bogart is in urgent need of a foster home so we can get this boy out of the shelter. Apply today to foster or adopt Bogart!

Adopt A Boxer Rescue (Knoxville, Maryland) 12/27/2011 Update
Ana Pola is doing wonderful in her new foster home. She is learning that when she goes out to potty, that she will be able to come back in and not be left outside. She uses a doggie door and does great. Ana Pola has free roam of the house when we are at work and has not touched or chewed anything. She is currently living with a submissive male boxer and is doing wonderful with him. Don’t let her age fool you. She loves to play ball and go for nice easy walks and play with our friends female Lab. She has gone on 2 mile walks and does just fine. She gets excited when the leash comes out and will pull a little. Boy does she love car rides! She will talk to you when she wants your attention. Usually a nice quiet, low key howl and a long growl, which is hilarious! Her back end is a little wobbly so a home with carpet and very few stairs would be best for her. She adores children and has shown NO aggression with anything, but can be female dominant. All she wants is a little attention, a little exercise, and she’s down for the count. Give her a nice soft bed and you will never know you have a dog in the house.
08/25/2011 - Update When Ana came to us, she was infested with fleas to the point where her skin was infected from constant flea bites. She also has some arthritis and possibly an old knee injury that has likely been painful over the years. But despite all of that, Ana Pola just couldn't be a happier, more friendly girl. She is currently living in a temporary foster home with 5 other dogs, boxers and smaller dogs, and is doing just great. Her nub never stops wiggling and she wants nothing more than to curl up next to you, give you boxer kisses, and get lots of petting.
Her fleas are now gone and she's not so itchy. Ana is on medication for the skin infection. Due to her age, there is not much that can be done about the knee injury other than not letting her jump from high distances, etc. We are already seeing some improvement after just a couple days of quality food and joint supplements. Additionally, she walks well on the leash.
As you can see from the pictures and video, she is a very sweet girl. At the vets office, everyone fell in love with her. Even the kitties tried to "hold her hand". We believe she is house-broken. She did have a few accidents her first day in foster, but by keeping her to a schedule she has not had an accident since. She loves to play in the yard and watch the "big" boys run around but mostly, she just wants to be loved. Chances are, if you are a human in Pola's house and you happen to look down, she'll likely be at your feet, looking up with her little snaggle smile and wiggling her little nub just in case you wanted to say "hi."
At AABR, we have a soft spot for the seniors. This girl is no exception. Cold cement, fleas, poor diet, and no medical care were all part of Pola's past - but we know that the time she has left can be so much better. Please help us make sure Pola's future is the best it can be!
08/14/2011 - Ana Pola is coming to AABR because her owner lost his home to foreclosure. With nowhere left to go for himself, he is in the difficult position of having to give up his dog of 10 years. Although Pola's former owner tried his best, her quality of life has not been great. She has spent much of her life outside in an urban yard behind a chainlink fence. She's been a mom in the past, but was spayed several years ago. Pola hasn't had much in the way of obedience training, although she does appear to be housebroken and good on a leash. With all this, she is by far one of the sweetest senior girls we have ever met. She absolutely loves people and cannot wait for you to lean down to give you a kiss or if you don't come down to her, she'll jump up and give you an "air kiss".
Someone forgot to tell Pola she is a senior citizen because she is just full of energy and wiggles. Her former owner tells us she is good with cats, kids, and dogs. We saw her interact with a little dog and she was just all wiggles. We will be bringing her into a temporary foster soon and will know more about how she does with dogs, etc in the coming week. Adopt A Boxer Rescue (Maryland) 09/19/2011 - Seabass was originally found as a stray and taken in by a family with two other boxers. The family does not feel they are able to manage three dogs, so they have asked rescue to find a wonderful, forever home for him. Seabass is a very mild mannered boy. He is great with other dogs and has been living with two senior boxers. Seabass is also living with a 9 year old child. He knows all of his basic commands and is completely housebroken. Seabass has been kept in the basement during the work day. His owner reports that Seabass enjoys car rides and meeting new people. The AABR volunteer that met Seabass indicated that he was a very calm boy. He didn't jump when greeting her and was content to lay in the backyard. He is a playful boy and is going to be a great addition to a home. Apply today if you are interested in adopting Seabass!

Adopt A Boxer Rescue (Maryland) 8/8/11 - Update
Annabelle is settling in well at her foster home and she is such a sweetheart! She loves everyone that she meets and the feeling is mutual - Annabelle had all of us from hello! She is so easy going and she loves to nap. Annabelle enjoys going out in the yard and basking in the sun, taking rides in the car, and most of all being with her human family! She seems to be very fond of men, in particular.
Annabelle has been on Thyroid meds for about two weeks now and her appetite is getting better. As a result, she is slowly putting on some much needed weight. She has also been diagnosed with Degenerative Myelopathy (DM), which causes progressive rear limb weakness. Annabelle is a little wobbly on her rear legs, but she can still run from time to time.
Her foster family is still working with Annabelle to help her learn to live peacefully with the three other dogs in her home. Annabelle would do best in a home without steps and carpet is much easier for her to move around on. Some new photos are included of this beautiful senior boxer girl!
07/09/2011 - Annabelle was found as a stray in a local schoolyard. She is a very sweet senior girl. When our volunteer went to meet her at the shelter, she was curled in a ball and shaking. Due to an offer of help, we were able to pull her quickly from the shelter and move her into a temporary foster home while she is recovering from a cold. Annabelle will then be going to our vet for an exam and moving into her foster home. She has some weakness in her back legs, which we will have examined. She will need a home without a lot of stairs. We will update her page as we get more information about her. Please consider adopting Annabelle. If you are interested in adopting Annabelle, please submit an on-line application at www.adoptaboxerrescue.com, and then email the contacts below. Please be sure to include your full name, city, state and area code in the subject line of your message.

Coco has come really far! New pictures are posted and her skin has completely cleared up! She is a very sweet and playful girl. Apply today to learn more about Coco.
9/18/2011 - Update 8/27/2011 - Update
Coco is doing well with her treatment. She has seen the dermatologist several times and we are working to get the appropriate medications in place for her. Coco's skin has improved since she came into rescue. She will need regular follow ups with a dermatologist in her forever home, but we are hopeful her skin will continue to improve and her break outs and vet visits will be less often.
Coco is a very smart, sweet, and gentle young girl. She knows all of her basic commands. Coco loves attention and will snuggle up against your legs when you sit near her. She loves all people and lives to eat! Coco also enjoys going for walks and car rides. She is well mannered and does not jump up. If you are interested in learning more about Coco or providing a forever home for her, apply today!
06/25/2011 - Coco was surrendered to the shelter because her owners could no longer afford her medical care. Coco is three years old, spayed, and has suffered a skin infection for the past six months that has not cleared up. The family has taken Coco to their regular vet and a dermatologist, who diagnosed a severe staph infection that had become resistant to the antibiotics she had been getting. Coco is going to her foster home today and AABR will be working to treat her skin condition. The previous owners reported that Coco is incredibly sweet. She lived with a 9 month old child who crawled all over her. Coco loves children and is very sweet with people. She attended doggy daycare and enjoys being around other dogs.
Please sponsor Coco so we are able to help this girl get over her skin infection and into a forever home! We will update her page as soon as we have more information.
If you are interested in adopting Coco, please submit an on-line application at www.adoptaboxerrescue.com, and then email the contacts below. Please be sure to include your full name, city, state and area code in the subject line of your message.

Adopt A Boxer Rescue (Reisterstown, MD) 8/27/11 - Update
Monty recently went on a trip to New York and he did great with everyone he met. He had made a lot of improvements with his introductions to new people. Monty has been wonderful with all the dogs he has met also - he just acts like a rambunctious puppy! He got the chance to go swimming a few weeks ago and caught on quickly. Monty is doing well with housebreaking and now sleeps through the night. If you can provide a forever home for Monty, apply today!
07/22/2011 - Monty is in foster and adjusting well. He is very puppy like in his behavior and his foster dad is estimating him to only be around a year of age. Monty knows sit and he gives his paw when he does it. He loves to cuddle with his foster dad and is doing well with his crate training. When Monty is let out of the crate, he literally bounces around the house in excitement. Monty does still need some work with housebreaking, but he is making progress. He can be wary with new people and does need time to warm up to them. Monty loves to play with other dogs and he will also entertain himself with a toy by throwing it in the air and catching it. 06/25/2011 - Monty is a really thin boxer boy who was found as a stray. The person that called animal control claimed that Monty was left in their yard. When he arrived at the shelter, Monty was very scared and difficult to handle. We had a volunteer meet him and spend some time with Monty out of the kennel run. Once he was outside the shelter and able to relax, he became much more comfortable and playful. Monty is currently at our vet's office, where he will be neutered and brought up to date on everything. He will then be going into a foster home with another boxer, where we will learn more about him and what kind of home he needs. If you are interested in adopting Monty, please submit an on-line application at www.adoptaboxerrescue.com, and then email the contacts below. Please be sure to include your full name, city, state and area code in the subject line of your message.

"Heidi" |

Adopt A Boxer Rescue (Maryland) 09/29/2011 - The best way to describe Heidi is happy, happy, happy! She loves to wrestle and play tug of war so needs a home where someone is willing to give her that attention. She doesn’t play 24/7 like a puppy would but she does like to have a couple of play sessions in a day. She has been great around my niece’s 3 and 5 year old kids but does still have food aggression with other dogs. She otherwise gets along with other dogs but will take toys or bones from other dogs if she wants them. She isn’t aggressive about it when she does but would have to be with another dog that wouldn’t react if she did this. She loves when company comes over to visit and is very happy to greet people she does not know. She is a good watch dog however and will bark when she hears or sees activity outside but she also isn’t an incessant barker either. She has not been around cats but I do not think she would be a good match for a home with cats. She does not like to be in a crate and will drool and bark when crated but she has done very well when left loose in the house when no one is home. Thunderstorms still make her nervous but she doesn’t get frantic, she just pants and paces. She needs a home where she will be allowed on the sofa and the bed as she is already used to this and enjoys lounging on either. 06/03/2011 - Heidi arrived in Maryland from Georgia on Wed, June 1st. Her foster mom reports she is settling in well and that she is very sweet and lovable. Heidi is not a hyper Boxer but she does like to play gently and loves rolling around on her back. She is getting along great with the other dogs in the foster home although she is protective of her food so needs to be fed away from other dogs. She does not like to be crated and does have some crate anxiety but has done well being left out loose when no one is home and enjoys just hanging out on the sofa. She LOVES to be petted and rubbed and hugged!! Even the smallest amount of attention goes a long way with Heidi! 05/28/2011 - Meet Heidi! She is a senior boxer who was a tornado victim in Georgia. The home and neighborhood she lived in were completely destroyed and her owner had to surrender Heidi, as well as a young boxer mix and a cocker spaniel, to a shelter. She was a shelter favorite, but was scheduled to be euthanized due to lack of space for incoming dogs. Heidi was lucky enough to be pulled by rescue. The temporary foster home in Georgia indicates that Heidi is very confused and seems to be looking for her owner and her home. She is getting along well with the other dogs. Heidi is reported to be very sweet and just wants to relax like most seniors do. Her life since the tornado has been turned upside down and she has not had a lot of stability as a result. She is being transported to Maryland this week and will be brought up to date on all vet care. We will update Heidi's page once her new foster family gets to know her better. Heidi deserves to have a place to call home in her remaining years. Can you be that special family that can offer Heidi a forever home where she will come to know that she feels loved and belongs somewhere again in her golden years? If you are interested in adopting Heidi, please submit an on-line application at www.adoptaboxerrescue.com, and then email the contacts below. Please be sure to include your full name, city, state and area code in the subject line of your message.

Evander is looking for a home without children or other dogs 8/14/11 Update - Well, Evander hasn’t been with AABR as long as some - but we’re sure 8 months sure does seem like a long time to him. He’s still looking for that perfect person or couple to take him home and complete their family. He may be able to be placed with a submissive female dog of the same size - as he has become fast friends with his foster fur sister, Bella. Slow introductions and patience will be needed to ensure a successful and lasting friendship.
Evander is a very unique looking little guy. His fur is very soft and super glossy black with a white blaze on his chest. When he gets excited, he does the cutest little dance accompanied by a “piggly” sort of grunt. Evander is a very handsome little guy, so if you are interested in meeting him for adoption - please submit an application for him today.
01/19/2011 Update -
Evander is a little guy with a big guy personality! He loves attention and would prefer not to share your affection with other dogs. He would give kisses all day long if you let him. Evander picks up new things quickly, but will require somebody to provide firm training, practicing the "Nothing in Life is Free" (NILF) method. He seems to enjoy going into his crate to sleep, especially if a treat is involved. Evander is not very interested in most toys, although he has grown fond of his stuffed frog and he likes to play with rope toys and knotted towels. He is very careful not to tear his stuffed toy and just likes to have "Froggy" around. Evander is one handsome dude, so if you are interested in meeting him for adoption - submit your application today! 12/27/2010 - Evander is currently at the vet's office for his neuter appointment. He is in need of a foster home following his surgery. We will update his page with more information soon.
11/30/2010 - Evander is still waiting in the kennel for a foster or forever home. He is very scared in the kennel and would love to get back into a home soon. His previous foster mom indicates that Evander is a really good dog. He picked up his new name quickly and always came when called. He has a really sweet and loving disposition. Evander did well with the submissive boxer in his foster home. He is not doing well in the kennel environment - please apply today for Evander!
11/12/2010 - Evander is now at one of our kennels and in urgent need of a new foster home. Kennel life is particularly stressful for him and Evander is in need of a home that will be patient and will allow him time to slowly acclimate to a home environment. We have determined that he is housebroken and great in his crate. He loves people and would do best in a home with a fenced yard. Please apply today if you are interested in fostering or adopting Evander!
11/10/2010 - Evander is settling into our home and beginning to enjoy hanging out with his foster brother and sister. Evander is a sweet little boy who just loves to cuddle and give kisses. He’s a petite fella with a BIG heart and he loves to follow me around the house. Evander is completely house trained, will go into his crate when we go to work with no problems with a treat. He sleeps in bed like a champ all through the night! He hasn’t quite got the knack of playing with toys yet, but he does eyeball his foster sister and brother when they are playing so I think it’s just a matter of time!! He makes the cutest little grunt sounds when he’s excited and happy and he skips around the house, which makes everyone laugh. If you can provide a forever home for Evander, apply today! 11/02/2010 - During Evander's transport from teh shelter today he gave lots of kisses and traveled well in the car. Evander met a variety of other animals while waiting to be checked in at the vet. He has a great temperament and is going to be a wonderful boy for a lucky family. His foster mom will update his page soon once she gets to know him better.
11/01/2010 - Evander was found by a hunter in the woods and was taken to the local shelter. Since they are so crowded, they called rescue for help. The volunteers at the shelter indicate that he is a sweet boy who loves to give kisses. Evander is estimated to be around 3 years old. He has been great with the other dogs, and sniffed and ignored the resident cat. Evander is very scared at the shelter. He will be transported to the vet's office to be neutered and brought up to date on all vet care. He will then be going into a foster home with two other boxers. His foster mom will give him some tender loving care and will help him gain some much needed weight. Apply today if you are interested in providing a forever home for this handsome boy!

"Tater" |

Adopt A Boxer Rescue (Maryland) - 4 years old 11/3/2011 UPDATE - Tater continues to do well in his foster home. Tater is such a beautiful boxer. He loves people and loves it when new people come to say hi. He does ok with other dogs as long as he can be introduced on his terms. Tater would prefer a fenced yard as he gets a little anxious on walks. Because Tater is a bit fearful, he would really like a home with someone that understands fearful dogs and is willing to continue working with him. He's made so much progress since he came to AABR and he deserves a great home to keep working on making him the great dog that he should be! Please consider Tater!
Tater is a 4 year old brindle boy who is being surrendered to rescue because his family is losing their home and moving to an apartment that does not allow dogs. Tater is reported to be crate trained and housetrained. He is used to having a fenced yard. Tater is currently living with cats and two children (16 months and 10 years old). He is very tolerant with the children and completely ignores the cats. Tater is going to be a wonderful boy for a lucky family - apply today to foster or adopt Tater!

Adopt A Boxer Rescue (Maryland) -
02/03/2012 - Update 10/10/11 - Update
After over a year in foster, Rita is losing her foster home and is in urgent need of a new place to go. She has been with AABR almost two years now and would love to finally find her forever home. She would do best in a home without other dogs, but is wonderful with people and will make keep you laughing! Rita does not deserve to go to a kennel - please offer to foster or adopt her today! 8/12/11 - Update 8/5/11 - Update
Rita is doing very well in foster and is getting better at responding to commands. She does have that lovable stubborn Boxer streak at times. Her preference is to lay in the sun outside, except when it is too hot. She knocks on the door to let me know she is ready to come inside. Although Rita should be an only dog, with a strong pack leader, she can adapt to another dog in time. It took several days, but she now accepts and shares doggy beds with Lily, who came home with my daughter. Rita is going to make a terrific companion for somebody. All she needs is lots of love and a forever home.
1/21/2011 -
Rita is continuing to improve in her foster home, although she still is startled easily at sudden noises. She is shy with new people, but usually warms up to them nicely. We are still working on the sit command...It is too funny to watch because when I ask her to sit she gets excited and does the Boxer wiggle all over the room. All I have to do is just touch her head and collar and she sits. Too cute. Rita loves being with my other Boxer, Rocky. She likes a little more activity than my senior boy. She likes a tug rope too! She runs all over the back yard with just a little chasing....at times it is a chore getting her to go back in the house. Rita is used to having somebody home with her most of the day. She loves having a fenced yard to run and play in. She is a great boxer girl - apply today to adopt Rita! 7/12/10 - Rita is doing wonderful in her foster home. She and 8 year old Rocky get along great and have no problems at all. We are still working on the sit command - she just gets so excited that I am talking to her that she dances all over the place instead of sitting. She is so cute. I can hold her collar and then she does sit. Rita is very content to sleep most of the day. She gets spurts of energy and races around the yard for a couple laps and then she is happy to get back in the air conditioning. She does have her sneaky side too. I found a bottle outside that I had left at the side door to put into the recycle bin. Rita is a charming and sweet girl - she will make you smile and laugh. Apply today to adopt Rita! 2/22/10 - Rita, our sweet Rita, we are so sorry the home we chose for you was not a good choice and you are now back at the kennel. We know you will be safe there and they will provide excellent care for you, but our heart breaks when you look at us with those sad eyes when we try to explain to you we are doing everything we can to find you a foster family to be with until your real forever family finds you. We promise to make better choices for you in the future. A more precious girl you will not find, Rita is a doll, so very sweet. She is confused at all the changes she has been through the last several months – changes she should not have had to endure, but such is life in rescue sometimes. Rita needs, and more importantly, deserves a home who will love her unconditionally, as she does them. She needs consistency and stability. We want Rita to go a home where she will have a male dog companion, and a fenced yard is a must for her. Rita was a puppy mill girl, she has a lot yet to experience in life, she needs a loving family to explore with her as she learns to enjoy the finer things in life. One look into her sweet face and you will be hooked, she is so worth the time she will need to get into a routine and start living and loving life as she should. Please open your heart and home to this special girl, you will be thankful you did. 2/19/10 - Rita is in urgent need of a foster or forever home. She is currently at one of our kennels and we are hoping to get her back into a home soon. Rita needs a home with a fenced yard and would do best in a home with another dog. She is very sweet and loving with people. Thank you for your interest in Rita! 12/12/09 - Update
I have been fostering Rita for almost 2 weeks in my home. She is a darling little thing. Rita is completely housebroken. She is getting along well with my medium sized dog and my boxer. She also does well around my cat. Rita is very shy at first, but once she gets to know you she comes out of her shell. Rita loves squeaky toys and loves to play. She still has a lot of pep in her! I feel Rita would do well in a relaxed home. She does like to play with balls but she is not the type to play rough with another dog. Rita is very happy to lay on your lap or beside you on the couch and get belly scratches and love from you. Rita is SO happy to be in a home where she can run outside and play and get some TLC. Apply today for Rita! 11/15/09 -
Rita is a six year old female boxer who was surrendered to the shelter by a puppy mill breeder because "she won't catch anymore." Rita has lived in an outdoor run the past several years. She has sores on her legs from laying on a hard surface. Rita has never known what it is like to live as a family member in the home.
During her transport, she was very sweet and she did wonderfully with everyone she met. She traveled well in the car, and even discovered what a toy was all about.
Rita is very gentle and easygoing. Please offer to foster or adopt Rita - and give her the loving home she has been waiting for!
If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an online application at www.adoptaboxerrescue.com. Then e-mail the contacts below. Be sure to include your full name, city, state, and area code in the subject line of your message.
